How do you turn a handful of chairs into a plane carrying hundreds of passengers? That’s the challenge facing Hemel Hempstead Theatre Company this summer as they bring the internationally acclaimed musical Come From Away to The Boxmoor Playhouse.
The production tells the remarkable true story of what happened in the days after 11 September 2001, when 38 planes were diverted to the small town of Gander in Newfoundland. Almost overnight, the town’s population doubled—and its residents responded with extraordinary kindness, opening their homes and lives to complete strangers.
Directed by Karina Bygate with a small cast playing multiple roles and minimal staging, the production continues Hemel Hempstead Theatre Company’s tradition of staging ambitious and engaging theatre for local audiences—bringing a globally celebrated musical to the local stage.
