Barbara Hannigan, opens the 2023/24 Season of the London Symphony Orchestra as LSO Associate Artist. The Canadian soprano and conductor is well known for an unparalleled dramatic sensibility but also for her interest, and exploration of contemporary music. Hannigan has collaborated extensively with composers, including Boulez, Zorn, Dutilleux, Ligeti, Stockhausen, Sciarrino, Barry, Dusapin, Dean, Benjamin and Abrahamsen and has given the world première performances of over 90 new creations. She is also a supporter of new musical talent through her Equilibrium Young Artist Programme and Momentum, a mentorship scheme.
Hannigan became one of the LSO’s first two Associate Artists in February 2022, for a period of three years. Associate Artists are musicians with distinct influences, qualities and styles that bring new dimensions to the LSO’s programmes.
