Spaceshifting is an ambitious and inventive play on traditional exhibition-making, that seeks to subvert the difficulties of international programming and strengthen cultural relationships across borders. The theme asks applicants to consider how works can move and metamorphose through space, across borders. Playing with dimensions, space, and material, the proposal seeks to challenge how an artwork can shift through space and time, physically changing from its inception to its display.
The show features “Creek Quilt” by Alex Phillips, a video simultaneously showing twenty-five views of North Vancouver’s Lynn Creek utilising sound and images to “orchestrate” a sonic experience of water flowing from a mountain stream as though it were a musical score regulated by currents and stones.
