On behalf of the Ukrainian Institute London we are pleased to share the return of the Ukrainian Film Festival. This year’s theme, “Reflections,” will explore the search for identity in challenging times, self-reflection, self-determination, and the recognition and acceptance of a present shaped by Ukraine’s past.
The programme includes:
Klondike | Thursday (19.08), 18:20: a powerful dramatisation of the tragic downing of Malaysian flight MH17 over the Donetsk region in 2014, capturing the lives of those caught in the epicentre of this catastrophe.
Mission 200 | Friday (20.09), 18:20: a poignant story of Tetiana, a Ukrainian woman who puts her life on hold to become a modern-day Charon, transporting the bodies of fallen soldiers following Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Ukraine. Displaced. Short films | Saturday (21.09), 15:00: From the pain of displacement to the hope of starting anew, a series of short films explores the emotional journeys of those forced to flee Ukraine because of the war.
Intercepted | Saturday (21.09), 18:00: Conceptual documentary featuring real phone calls from Russian soldiers in Ukraine to families back home, revealing the brutal reality of war.
Earth | Sunday (22.09), 15:00: Named one of the top ten silent films by The Guardian and The Observer, Oleksandr Dovzhenko’s Earth is the most renowned Ukrainian film and a masterpiece of world cinema.
