Calling all theatre and dance organisations in the UK and Canada! British Council, Farnham Maltings and the High Commission of Canada in the UK are now inviting applications to their jointly-funded New Conversations programme.

British Council, the High Commission of Canada in the UK and Farnham Maltings are inviting applications to the second round of their jointly funded New Conversations programme.

Theatre and dance organisations in the UK and Canada are invited to apply for up to £5,000 ($8,700) for ambitious research and development projects that offer the first steps towards collaboration. Artists and artist-led collectives can apply in partnership with an organisation and cross-art form collaborations are welcomed.

New Conversations aims to increase cultural exchanges between the UK and Canada, allowing for more artist mobility and international opportunities, with a goal of initiating long term partnerships that benefit both the UK and Canadian arts sectors. Initially a two-year pilot the first round saw £62,300 invested in nine new creative partnerships.

Gavin Stride, Director of the Maltings, said: “We received more than 100 applications in the first round of this programme, which clearly demonstrates the appetite for international collaboration within the sector. We are excited to offer more artists and arts organisations the opportunity to benefit from making international connections and thank you to ACE for their support to make this happen.”

Mariya Afzal, Country Director, British Council Canada, said: “The exchanges that New Conversations has already leveraged in the first round are exemplary of the role the arts can play in promoting a cultural dialogue between Canada and the UK. We are pleased to announce the launch of the second call and look forward to receiving applications from across Canada and the UK.”

Janice Charette, High Commissioner for Canada in the UK, said: “The Canada-UK relationship spans all sectors, but it is this human connection that roots us together. I am pleased to support the creation of such rich partnerships between Canadian and UK artists, and look forward to seeing further creative collaborations in the second round of this project.
